Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Preview at MWC 2025!

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Preview at MWC 2025!

Table of Contents

In January 2025 at the CES, Samsung teased its users and enthusiasts with the ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge. Allegedly, reports showed that this may be the slimmest phone of the S25 series or model. But, at the 2025 Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, the company previewed the actual device. This time, users could see its silver-coloured design and slim profile upfront.

Though there are still some weeks before it is launched, there have been various leaks making the way and piquing the interest of users. This has created curiosity on what the giant company has planned for the slimmer Galaxy S25. Let’s find out below.

Features and Specifications

On the first day of the  Mobile World Congress event, Samsung gave users a peek into the smartphone’s design. However, users were not allowed to take a closer look at the device or touch it. But individuals present on the ground could take pictures of mobile devices from a distance. This ensures privacy is maintained before the launch. With these consecutive showcases, we expect the Galaxy S25 Edge to launch in April 2025, but there might not be any sales until May.

On features and specifications, the Galaxy S25 Edge may feature an AMOLED 6.6-inch display that has a 120Hz refresh rate with about 1600 its peak brightness. There is the possibility of the phone being powered via a Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is the same as its other siblings, a 12MP ultra wide camera, and a 200MP main camera. Design wise, the Galaxy S25 Edge may feature a ceramic build with a weight of 162 grams and a thickness of 5.84mm.

These features are promising, but the competitors of the Galaxy S25 Edge can already be seen. For example, the Tecno Spark Slim, a concept-based smartphone, has a thickness of 5.75mm, challenging the Galaxy S25 Edge thickness. Conversely, Apple is reportedly launching a slim phone, that may be named as the iPhone 17 Air.

Durability

The managing director of Samsung UK did an interview with TechRadar where he made comments on some expectations of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. Overall, he mentioned that the goal of this device is thinness, but durability won’t be forgotten. According to the executive:

“I can’t say too much, but what I will say is that [the Edge] is about the beautiful form factor. And there are two points I want to make,” Bizon explained. “One is that it’s absolutely stunning. And if you think about the technology that’s going into that size of space, it’s pretty impressive.”

“The second thing I’ll say concerns durability. With anything slim, durability [has to come as part of the package]. Those are the two features [of the Edge] that are exciting [for us]. Well, I know durability isn’t exciting – but it’s really important. So watch this space, because there are some exciting things to come regarding this phone.”

In another rumour, the device will use a ceramic rear panel, not glass. Devices like the OnePlus X have used ceramic, as it lets phones be very durable in terms of shatter and scratch resistance. However, many argue that  ceramic is a dense material, thus making the phone heavier. Now, this device is meant to be light and thin, so, how can ceramic fit in?

We will have to wait and see as the aim of the design team will be to attain an equilibrium between the device weight and the robustness of the materials. The decision by Samsung to preserve secrecy regarding this device was a disappointment to individuals who sought immediate information, however, this can result in an anticipation for the formal presentation.

To Samsung, the S25 Edge will play a huge part in its innovation strategy. It can be seen that this device is a response to a high number of demands for stylish and unique smart devices. This device is different from the normal and predictable trends we have seen so far. Therefore, we can see that this move is a way to show difference from their competitors and their transformation shows more about their ambitions in the competitive smartphone market.

This device is meant to leverage multimodal AI technology that allows more conversation-like and natural interactions.
